Ask Alison.

How can I stop being a drama queen?
Dear Alison,

How do I stop being so dramatic?

Sincerly,

I don't wanna be a drama queen

The first thing I would ask is why you don't want to be a drama queen...but I guess I'd also ask you what you think a drama queen is.

If you want to change because other people say that you're dramatic in a mean/judgemental way, then I don't think you should change. If this is part of who you are, you'll make yourself happier by just accepting it and moving on.

If you want to change because you've thought long and hard about your drama-ness and it's affecting your life, then think about why you want to change. Is it that you jump to conclusions and end up overreacting? If so, the next time something upsets you, take at least an hour to cool down. If your emotions are raging, your brain won't be working.

Truthfully, that's the only sort of drama queen thing I can see as being a negative - but I would just call it being human. We all react instantly to things and then regret it later; we're human.

Drama queens come with their share of problems, but they are awesome to be around because they tend to have larger than life personalities, stories to tell, and experiences to share. I like drama queens, if they are not whinetastic.

My advice when it comes to anything like this? Don't change yourself; change how you feel about yourself.
